Breast Cancer Run to Loskop Dam

A group of us are having a Breast Cancer Awareness Run to a resort in Limpopo Province ......... here are the details, a bit long, but there is a treat in the end ...... you will be able to track 2 of the motor cyclists that will be heading in different directions ..... LIVE ..... REALTIME.

Heck. What a heading. Is it in anyway possible to use the words "cancer" and "jol" in the same sentence. Cancer is serious. Very serious. Jolling is exactly the opposite. However, if you have a awesome bike ride and a awesome jol with the intent to create awareness and collect some funds for one or another cancer organisation, the In the Spirit of Riding group's initiative coming up next meeting, must be a "Cancer Jol".

Now, we all know the In the Spirit of Riding lot are all a tad nuts and apart from riding silly distances in silly periods of time, they regularly come up with crazy ideas. This is one of those and it may well be worth a biker's (or a motorcyclist's) while to take note of this plan and join in!

I am sure the chickens will want to join. They understand the importance of awareness and funds regardig breast cancer. Guys, (forgive me ladies, but you know us guys ... ) I suggest you read only as far as "breast" and then go there, all exited, hot bothered and .
This is the plan for the weekend.

There will be two rides. One for the chickens (they prefer not to ride in drool) and one for the guys, drooling in anticipation. The rides will start and end at the same venue, but follow different routes.

Route for the guys - Saturday 24 October:
08:00 onward: Meet at Samrand Shell Ultra City (N1 - North)
09:00: Depart for the Forever Resort at Loskop Dam.
Travel north on the the N1 to Mokopane. (remember bucks for the ripp-off booths, there is a few)
Travel east on the N11 towards Middelburg.
Stop at De Villa Holiday Resort, 5 km short of the Loskop Forever Resort.
Wait for the go ahead from the control room to continue towards the venue. At "GO" from control room leave for the Forever Resort. This is to ensure the guys and guyettes arrive together. (Arrogant buggers us men, thinking automatically the guys will be waiting and not the chickens!)
Total distance: 375km

Route for the chickens - Saturday 24 October:
08:00 onward: Meet at Samrand Shell Ultra City (N1 - North).
10:00: Depart for the Forever Resort at Loskop Dam. (chickens get an hour more for ablutions and stuff before departing)
Travel north on the N1. (remember bucks for the "TOL-hekke". Hmmm ..... Tol-hek, rather appropriate in this case.)
Travel east on the N4 towards Middelburg.
Take the N11 towards Loskop Dam.
Arrive at the venue at the same time the guys do.
Total distance covered: 225km

Both groups:
Guys and guyettes arrive at the Loskop Dam Forever Resort.
Enter the venue via the gate on the left, no charge for anyone on a bike.
Move down the foot path to the conference room (Kingfisher or Barbet, right next to each other so no problem)
Please park bikes only in the designated spot outside the conference room.

Important stuff to know:
Radio Kragbron 93.1 FM will set up on the conference room and will be broadcasting life from the venue. How cool is that!?
Africa Tracking Solutions will be set up in the conference room and will have been tracking the progress of the bikes as they leave from Samrand and move toward Loskop Dam. This means of Fox and RvZ turn of somewhere and park under a tree somewhere all will know! Darn cool if you ask me. Progress will also be reported via Kragbron Radio
Africa Tracking have started a prize giving that all bikers who do the run are immediately entered into. Basically, you register, buy a keyring and voila! You are in the draw for a freaking cool tracking system.

Anyone else who wants to take part in the prize giving has to register at the gate or at the conference room – entry fee to the competition is the purchase of a breast cancer keyring – keyring information supplied curtsy of the Canadian Breast Cancer Association link www.thingamaboob.ca. The keyring will be available at the gate at R25 a pop. The 25 bucks gets you the nifty keyring and a entry into the competition. The price for this draw is a Africa Tracking Solution Tracking System with one year's free subscription. It is a awesome prize and what is really cool, for a techno freak like myself anyway, is you can track your vehicle via your own PC. DO NOT GIVE YOUR WIFE THE PASSWORD!!!
Anyone not arriving on a bike will pay normal day visitor fees of R40/person plus R10/car. Tell me again bikes are not the way to go!

There is a fishing completion going on at the same time so there will be lots of people there, to join the party, maybe feed the Capey's some fish, and be merry in general. Someone may want to dish out TB stickers and Z-folds to these anglers while at it

Radio Kragbron 93.1 FM will be covering the fishing competition as well.

There will be a beer tent and a cash bar, part of the fishing competition but the bikers have permission to join in the fun.

The radio station will be broadcasting a 30 second advert for 6 days before the event in prime time.

Spirit, who being regarded as strange by most and truly weird by the Kragbron Radio will be interviewed on at least two occasions. She will be forced to punt TB by some dastardly rules enforced by ThnAir.
We have made a booking at De Villa Resort for 30 people at R150 each sharing for the night of the 24th.
There is pool, playground for children, a lapa, a pub which will be open all night. I am not sure whether skinny dipping will be allowed, but perving over the chickens is certainly acceptable.

More information:
They charge R10 for a beer or a tot plus R6 for the mix.
There is a shop very close by for booze, meat and charcoal.
The chalets are both 6 and 4 sleepers with air con and fridges.
Breakfast will be served at an extra charge of no more than R50/person. If you have to be carried to the breakfast table, a facilitation fee may be charged.
Guys and guyettes, a lot of work and planning went into this and spreading the news about Breast Cancer while riding and jolling must be worth the time and money. The "In the Spirit of Riding" people require butts on bike seats at the venue. Please get there, or get to debate the use of a forum moderator with me over a period of three weeks in a pub in Bapsfontein.

Support please

Here is the fun part .......

Using the tracking software

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is suggested that you use Mozilla Firefox for this. It can be downloaded here:- http://www.africatrack.co.za/files/Firefox%203.5.3.exe

Africa Tracking:- http://41.0.16.92/GPSMonitor/framework/frameMain.jsp

Password: riding
Validation key: As you see it
Then press "login"

1) When the Africa Mao appears you will see on your left + ATS DEMOS.
2) Expand it and choose either "Spirit" or "ThnAir" You will see it starts looking for us.
3) A pin will appear on the map. You can zoom in to it or click on it and it will tell you exactly where we are.
4) If you want to see where we have ridden you can click on "Tracking" in the top right of your screen.
5) Again, open the "+" next to the "ATS DEMOS" on the left of your screen and choose either of us.
6) Below that you will see "Start" Fill in a date you want to track from 200919
7) To the right of that you have a start time. Put in the time 06:00:00
Eight) - damn silly face - Then move to the "End" and fill in the date you want to track to 200920 and the time 16:00:00
9) Leave timer as 2s
10) Then press "Tracking" under the timer.
11) Give the system some time to populate the bottom of the screen with the routing information. You will see date, speed, time, etc.
12) Under the map, above the route information that has just appeared you will see a play button. Press it and wait. The system will start tracking the route taken on the map.

Very cool don't you think

Using this software you or your family will be able to track where we are on the road. Africa Tracking also has backup systems in place in case of a breakdown. They can get support to you very quickly.

The idea being that the two groups of riders will be tracked from Johannesburg to Loskop Dam and our position will be advertised on the Kragbron 93.1 radio station as we move.

We need to co-ordinate the two groups so that we arrive at the gate at the same time

Bela Bela Duvet run

I did a run with the Think Bike team to Bela Bela on Saturday the 10th of October 2009, and what a wake-up call it was. We so easily complain about everything in life. The children’s home we delivered 42 duvets to is called
"Huis Talje" and man o man, what a truly sad and heart breaking sight.

These kids are severely and I mean severely disabled.

Some photos from the run.

What a MAN...

WOW, I met Bertrand a couple of days ago (online), and he has been of great help and a great source of info about Africa and tricks on your motorcycle, to make sure you will be able to go that extra mile or two. From yesterday I did notice that the website gets a big amount of visitors from an unknown URL. So, being human, I followed the URL and to my surprise Bertrand is “auctioning” off some of his own work to help raise funds for the JMMS Ride for MS.

What a surprise.

So I follow the “auction” and get yet another shocking surprise.

A guy from Scotland (papa 106) won the “auction” and offer to return the item to raise even more funds. I would like to thank Para106, for his golden heart allowing all this to move forward, Cappi, British Red, Sparkplug, Shewie

What can I say, accept THANKS THANKS THANKS THANKS

It’s people like Bertrand and the couple from France that will make the JMMS Ride for MS Possible.

Follow the “auction” on : http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44677
